Remedial Massage

Remedial Massage involves systematic assessment of the body to treat muscle-skeletal ailments to assist in rehabilitation, pain and injury management. The massage is designed to support a return to balance of muscle/soft tissue length; increase the flow of blood and oxygen to the tissue; reduce or eliminate pain and restore function.  Using specific techniques a this massage can access the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue and may also combine stretching and joint loosening.

At Living Stillness our Remedial Massage is based on the foundation of understanding that a massage does not need to be painful to be effective. Massage that goes straight into strong and force-full pressure will cause surface muscles and surrounding fascia/connective tissue to respond in a protective manner, thus tensing up and not allowing effective access to deeper tissue. Our practitioners come with absolute respect for a client’s body, thorough consultation & assessment we develop a treatment plan that will effectively meet the needs of the presenting condition or injury. Our knowledge of anatomy and physiology supports us to understand that in order to access the deeper layers of muscles and tissue, a client’s surface muscles must first be appropriately warmed, elongated and relaxed to allow deeper tissue work to be effective and not cause pain or additional damage to a client’s muscles.

If you have a particular musculoskeletal condition that needs attention or need to work on a specific area of the body, Remedial Massage may be for you.

Session duration is usually 30, 45 or 60 minutes, depending on the issue and you may require follow-up appointments to complete the treatment.

Oncology Massage

Oncology Massage is a complementary medicine therapy that uses specialised massage for people who have been diagnosed with cancer, have a cancer history, are receiving active treatment, are recovering or in the survivorship phase, as well as for those who are at end of life. Due to the specialised nature of all the stages involved in the cancer disease process, a trained oncology massage therapist is the most appropriate type of massage therapist for clients within these stages to see if they would like to add massage to their support plan.

Oncology massage involves gentle, nurturing touch, deep care & respect for the client, and an absolute attention to detail in every moment, ensuring the therapist is responsive to the changes observed from the client during the massage. This responsiveness is essential, ensuring the massage is tailor made to the client’s physical experience in the present moment.

At Living Stillness we work in conjunction with your medical team to ensure that you to receive support that is in line with your treatment plan. Each massage begins with a consultation to update your massage therapist on the stage of your treatment cycle, how you are feeling both physically and emotionally and any consultations you have had with your medical team.

Oncology Massage training ensures that the massage therapist has specialised knowledge that understands the disease and the many ways it affects the body. Practitioners have an informed understanding of treatment and the side effects that may occur from medications, surgery, chemotherapy and radiation as well as having an understanding of the impact that Cancer has on the person as a whole.

BOOK A MASSAGE

"I was diagnosed with breast cancer in my left breast 12 months ago and had a total mastectomy which left me with a big scar and restriction in my movement. There was always a tight, pulling sensation in the area and it was difficult to raise my left arm above my head. After having my first Oncology massage with Bianca, I felt immediate relief in the area, there was less restriction in my movement and my scar felt softer."
